A Farmforce Case Study

Preview of the Cargill Case Study

First Mile Traceability of the Agriculture Supply Chain

Cargill, a global food company, faced the challenge of achieving transparent, bag-level traceability for the cocoa it sources from over 250,000 smallholder farmers in West Africa. Their goal was to proactively address sustainability issues and ensure their cocoa met certification standards. To tackle this, they partnered with vendor Farmforce to deploy their Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system as an enterprise solution.

The Farmforce platform provided a scalable, data-driven solution that enabled Cargill to trace cocoa back to individual farmers by linking unique farmer IDs and GPS field locations to each lot purchased. This implementation delivered critical operational visibility, allowing Cargill to more effectively combat deforestation, address social challenges, and monitor its sustainability progress. The solution grew from a small pilot to managing hundreds of cooperatives, forming the foundation for Cargill’s 2030 goal of 100% traceability.
