United Grinding North America boosts grinder speed and cybersecurity with FANUC Panel i

United Grinding North America, the North American support arm for Walter Grinders, faced challenges with obsolete DOS and Windows 7-based controls on its legacy grinding machines. These outdated systems were no longer supported, preventing upgrades to Windows 10 for IoT connectivity, were much slower, and were out of cybersecurity compliance for insurance purposes. To address this, they partnered with FANUC America Corporation.

FANUC America implemented its Panel i retrofit solution to modernize the grinders. This upgrade replaced the legacy controls, significantly increasing processing speed and improving cybersecurity to meet compliance requirements. The solution also enabled future IoT connectivity. According to a United Grinding executive, the successful results led to them upgrading all of their customers' machines.
