Saddle Creek Logistics Services cuts unloading labor from 5 to 1–2 with FANUC

Saddle Creek Logistics Services, a major omnichannel supply chain solutions provider, faced significant challenges at its Modesto, California hub. The extreme heat inside shipping containers created a dangerous work environment for the repetitive and ergonomically challenging task of unloading heavy boxes. This led to high employee turnover and a high risk of injury. To address this, they partnered with FANUC America and its authorized system integrator, Anyware Robotics, to implement a solution.

FANUC America, through Anyware Robotics, deployed the Pixmo mobile robot, which leverages a FANUC CRX collaborative robot. This solution automated the unloading process, fitting into the facility's tight quarters without requiring major infrastructure changes. The results were substantial: labor requirements decreased from 4-5 people to just 1 or 2, dock injuries for unloading dropped to zero, and over 1.7 million pounds of product have been handled. The system also expanded to perform palletizing, creating the world's first mobile cobot system for both unloading and palletizing.
