Lakeside Book Company, a leading book manufacturer and distributor, faced significant challenges with its labor-intensive manual depalletizing process, which was a critical bottleneck. The highly variable mixed cases required a solution that could exceed the capabilities of human workers. They partnered with FANUC America Corporation to address these issues.

FANUC, along with system integrator APT, implemented an AI-driven robotic depalletizing system using a FANUC R-2000iC/125L robot, a 3DV Vision Camera, and AI Box Locator software. The solution automated the handling of 45 million pounds of product annually, improving safety and ergonomics. It exceeded initial projections by processing over nine cases per minute, which allowed Lakeside Book to reallocate hard-to-find workers to other roles and achieve a significant boost in throughput.
