Athena 3D Manufacturing, an additive manufacturer based in the Phoenix area, needed a way to run its 3D printers lights-out so completed jobs would not sit idle overnight waiting for an operator to change the print bed. The company worked with FANUC America Corporation and its CRX collaborative robot to address the time-consuming manual changeovers that were limiting machine utilization and slowing production deadlines.

FANUC America Corporation and Delta Technology implemented an automated system using a FANUC CRX-10 cobot to move Athena from one printer to multiple printers operating at the same time, all night long. The result was nearly doubled production, a 40% increase in machine utilization, and a scalable lights-out manufacturing setup that let employees spend more time on customer support and product quality.
