Advanced Drainage Systems improves 24/7 pipe handling with FANUC automation

Advanced Drainage Systems, a manufacturer of plastic septic pipes, faced significant ergonomic and safety challenges for its employees handling long, cumbersome products on a 24/7 production line. Labor was difficult to find for these roles, leading to inefficiency and downtime. To address this, the company partnered with vendor FANUC America Corporation and its authorized system integrator, JR Automation, to seek an automated robotic solution.

FANUC implemented a custom automated system featuring a specialized hopper and three vertical magazines to handle, strap, and palletize the pipes. The solution utilized a FANUC R-2000iC/210R robot, which minimized required touchpoints and maintained hold of the products throughout the entire process. This resulted in a significantly reduced risk to employees, improved quality, increased production throughput, and valuable cost savings for Advanced Drainage Systems.
