Making everyday payment easier with A Little World

A Little World is an Indian microfinance and payments company that provides branchless financial services to low-income populations. It faced a common challenge in India: a shortage of small change, made worse by inflation and the 2016 demonetization, which made everyday purchases harder for consumers and retailers. Mainstream cards were not a good fit because they typically require minimum transaction values.

To address this, A Little World worked with Famoco to power the SBI-Mother Dairy SmartChange Card using Famoco’s FX100 devices with embedded payment and top-up applications managed securely over the air. The solution made small-value “tap and pay” transactions quick and easy, with more than 850 Famoco devices deployed, over 135,000 cards in circulation, and around 11,000 transactions per day. Famoco’s technology also supported later deployments such as the Amul Milk Card.
