A FAMCare Case Study
The Michigan Department of Human Services faced rising caseloads, tighter budgets, and new federal reporting and coordination requirements for juvenile justice and child welfare. To build a web-based system of care that would share information across family courts, county services and private providers, DHS contracted with Global Vision Technologies to deploy FAMCare’s web-based application as the core of the Juvenile Justice Online Technology (JJOLT) initiative.
Using FAMCare, JJOLT delivered a statewide MIS with electronic case management, provider matching and referrals, automated notifications, AFCARS-compliant reporting, HIPAA-grade security, and interfaces to other state databases. The system now covers all state-operated juvenile facilities and many private providers, supports oversight of roughly 5,000 juvenile wards, enables same‑day referrals when vacancies exist, sends instant absconder alerts, and improved auditing, data sharing and fiscal/program accountability — measurable gains in speed, coordination and reporting made possible by FAMCare.
