Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) needed a better way to manage its tail spend procurement. With around 15,000 annual purchases under $50,000, the organization had to manually collect at least two bids per order, which made the process slow, labor-intensive, and difficult to track. MBTA turned to Fairmarkit and its automated sourcing and RFQ platform to modernize the workflow.
Fairmarkit digitized MBTA’s sourcing operations by automating vendor selection, RFQ distribution, and bid comparison, while also expanding access to a broader vendor ecosystem. As a result, MBTA achieved 100% compliance with bidding regulations, cut source-to-award cycle times, and generated more than $100K in average monthly savings. Since 2017, Fairmarkit has helped MBTA receive over 56,000 bids on more than 14,000 RFQs, driving $10M+ in cost avoidance.
