Software Technology, Inc., a long-established developer of time-and-billing and practice-management applications (including Tabs3 and PracticeMaster), faced growing performance and deployment challenges as larger firms and more concurrent users adopted its software. To meet requirements for easy deployment, cross-platform support, scalability and low administration, STI relied on FairCom technologies — having used FairCom’s c-tree Plus since the mid-1980s — and sought a client/server solution that could handle increased database and network demands.

STI implemented FairCom’s maintenance‑free c-tree Server as a client/server option (while retaining the peer‑to‑peer model), working closely with FairCom to optimize operations (including a DLL‑switching technique for exclusive operations). FairCom’s c-tree Server delivered multi‑threaded processing, caching and index compression, reduced network traffic, heterogeneous network support and easy, no‑DBA deployment. The result was significantly faster throughput, reliable scalability for more concurrent users, lower administration overhead and a cost‑effective alternative to larger database vendors — benefits STI credits to FairCom.
