Case Study: WellCare achieves stronger leadership, higher engagement and reduced turnover with FACTS

A FACTS Case Study

Preview of the Wellcare Case Study

How a leading healthcare company pursued a vision to make themselves stronger, one leader at a time

WellCare Health Plans, Inc., headquartered in Tampa, Florida, is a national provider of government‑sponsored managed care (Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D) serving about 3.8 million members. After federal health reform and rapid program changes in 2014, the organization focused resources on new services, leaving little time or budget for employee development; layoffs and stalled corporate growth followed, creating an urgent need to rebuild leadership capacity.

WellCare adopted a “one leader at a time” strategy and partnered with CD2 Learning using The Ken Blanchard Companies’ Situational Leadership® II curriculum, delivered via a customized learning process map with videos, simulations and toolkits. The program created a common leadership language, enabled virtual collaborative groups and Coaching Circles, and increased manager engagement and accountability; to date ~465 leaders have completed the program (approaching 500), with notable increases in engagement and no turnover among trained managers.
