The Port Authority of NY and NJ - Customer Case Study

The Port Authority of NY and NJ faced a challenge at the World Trade Center's Oculus, where it sought to upgrade the lighting for its Vehicle Security Center, PATH areas, and other facilities to reduce energy consumption and increase lamp life. Facility Solutions Group (FSG) was tasked with designing and implementing this major lighting and controls upgrade across more than 13,000 fixtures.

FSG's solution was to convert all lighting from fluorescent and HID to high-efficiency LED technology. A key innovative element was the installation of new LED RGB theatrical lighting with DMX controls for the Oculus up lighting, allowing staff to display any color. This project, completed by 2020, achieves substantial annual energy savings of $715,000 for the customer while significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
