Case Study: UTMB expands League City Hospital with Facility Solutions Group electrical construction

New state-of-the-art hospital wing construction project helps UTMB address rapid growth challenges

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) faced a significant challenge when expanding its League City Campus to meet increased demand. The project's complexity stemmed from upgrading the electrical system within an operating hospital, where the new design did not match the existing infrastructure. Facility Solutions Group (FSG) was tasked with this electrical construction project, which required a major 12-hour shutdown to rebuild switchgear and add backup generators to ensure no power was lost during the critical procedure.

Facility Solutions Group successfully executed the expansion and renovation, which included constructing a new five-story wing with ICU beds, support spaces, and a dining facility, as well as renovating existing areas to add endoscopy rooms and a new helipad. FSG delivered this complex electrical construction solution, completing the $10.4 million project in February 2020, which enabled UTMB to effectively accommodate its rapid growth and increased service demands.
