FSG Upgrades Lighting at The George Washington Bridge

The Port Authority of NY and NJ required a comprehensive lighting upgrade for the George Washington Bridge and its associated roadways and buildings. Their challenge was to retrofit exterior fixtures to withstand the bridge's intense vibrations and environment while meeting light level requirements, all with minimal disruption to the busy traffic flow. Facility Solutions Group was selected to perform this LED lighting and controls upgrade.

Facility Solutions Group designed a customized solution, vetting fixtures with the Engineer of Record and utilizing computer modeling. The project involved replacing thousands of fixtures with LEDs, which cut energy usage by over 2.6 million kWh annually. This resulted in substantial energy savings of over $417,000 per year, while also dramatically improving light quality and reducing long-term maintenance costs due to the new fixtures' extended lifespan.
