Verdens Gang attains exceptional availability for Norway’s top news and media web site

Verdens Gang, publisher of Norway’s leading daily newspaper, runs VG.no which attracts about 2.5 million unique daily visitors and 1.2 million regular mobile readers and faces frequent, large traffic spikes and persistent DDoS threats. To secure availability and responsive performance, Verdens Gang engaged F5 Networks and deployed F5 BIG‑IP solutions (BIG‑IP LTM and BIG‑IP DNS on BIG‑IP 5250v platforms).

F5 Networks implemented dual BIG‑IP platforms across two data centers to load‑balance and optimize traffic, accelerate SSL, and detect TCP‑level DDoS attacks. The result: VG.no remained online during extreme events (including the 2011 bombing), handled peaks up to 30 GB/s, sustained 1–3 second page loads for millions of users, supported other sites during attacks, and freed up roughly one full‑time IT resource for business development.
