A F5 Networks Case Study
The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) faced a fragmented, aging IT environment — siloed load balancers, WAF and VPN from multiple vendors that impaired scalability, availability and web application security and delivered a poor user experience. To consolidate and modernize its infrastructure and secure user access ahead of a data‑centre refresh, UTS engaged F5 Networks and its BIG‑IP family of services.
F5 Networks deployed an integrated BIG‑IP platform (LTM, GTM/DNS, ASM, APM, AFM and vCMP), worked with UTS to test the environment and migrated 150 applications via a DNS cutover. The consolidation produced continuous high availability with near‑instant geo‑redundant failover, centralized remote access and access control, strengthened WAF/DDoS protection, and reduced the number of products, maintenance and support overhead — improving user experience, infrastructure efficiency and overall security posture.
