Top R&D University POSTECH Accelerates SAP Applications with F5 Application Ready Solution for SAP

Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), a leading research university in Korea, needed to modernize its application delivery for SAP ERP after its mix of L4 switches, firewalls, and the SAP Web Dispatcher could no longer meet performance, scalability, security, and cost-reduction goals. POSTECH sought to improve user experience during traffic surges, offload SSL without changing applications, replace the SAP Web Dispatcher for better load‑balancing, and protect sensitive student data using solutions from F5 Networks (including the F5 Application Ready Solution for SAP and BIG-IP appliances).

F5 Networks implemented the F5 Application Ready Solution for SAP, deploying BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and BIG-IP Application Security Manager (ASM) to provide L7 load balancing, iRules-based traffic management, SSL offload, TCP offload, RAM caching, and a web application firewall. The result was faster, more available SAP ERP delivery, simplified administration, stronger application security, and a 98% reduction in server-side TCP connections—enabling server consolidation and lower capital and operational expenses.
