Spire Healthcare secures digital services evolution with F5

Spire Healthcare, a UK private healthcare provider with 38 hospitals and over 3,700 consultants, needed to strengthen application security as more of its services moved online. As patient data and customer-facing digital services expanded, the team lacked visibility into user behavior and device access, making it harder to plan security changes and respond to stakeholder and audit requirements. In 2016, it turned to F5 and Silverline.

F5 implemented Silverline Web Application Firewall and Silverline DDoS Protection as managed services, supported by the Security Operations Center. The service gave Spire better visibility into connections and user behavior, helped create bespoke WAF policies for applications, and provided always-on expert support during incidents such as a significant DDoS attack. F5 also helped reassure insurers, NHS stakeholders, and other partners that Spire’s data security controls could meet demanding standards.
