Sarasota County Schools Defends Against Security Threats Using F5 Solutions

Sarasota County Schools, which serves about 42,000 students across 52 schools, faced a crippling DDoS attack, fragmented security tools, unreliable load balancing, and slow vendor response. To shore up defenses and stabilize application delivery, the district turned to F5 Networks and its BIG-IP platform (including BIG-IP LTM, BIG-IP ASM, and BIG-IP APM).

F5 Networks—working with partner Optiv and F5 Support and Professional Services—assembled an emergency response team, traced and neutralized the DDoS at its source, and deployed BIG-IP ASM for attack protection, BIG-IP LTM to standardize load balancing and SSL offload, and BIG-IP APM for centralized access control. The result: no downtime and no successful DDoS attacks to date, stronger security and CIPA compliance, more reliable application performance, and faster, more responsive vendor support.
