SaaS Provider RelayHealth Delivers Innovative Healthcare Applications with F5 Solutions

Optum faced fragmented application delivery across multiple data centers and hundreds of heterogeneous servers, with host-based load balancing, scattered SSL certificates, and slow, manual traffic failover creating downtime and long development cycles. To address this, Optum engaged F5 Networks and adopted F5 BIG-IP solutions—specifically BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager (GTM)—to centralize and standardize load balancing, SSL termination, and traffic steering.

F5 Networks implemented a deployment of BIG-IP LTMs and GTMs to perform health checks, offload SSL, and route traffic intelligently between data centers, enabling geographically diverse application delivery. As a result, Optum achieved dramatically faster response times and virtually eliminated slow performance and downtime, cut application deployment time and cost by about 30%, and reduced hardware and management overhead through centralized control.
