Pitney Bowes Achieves Greater Scale, Reliability for Global E-Commerce Platform with F5 + Okta

Pitney Bowes, a global technology company, needed to scale and secure access to its Commerce Cloud for 2.8 million users while migrating a complex mix of legacy and cloud apps. To meet requirements for APIs, SAML/OAuth compatibility, flexible provisioning and high availability, Pitney Bowes implemented an Okta + F5 Networks approach, leveraging F5 Networks’ BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and Access Policy Manager (APM) modules.

F5 Networks provided reverse-proxy and access-management capabilities (BIG-IP LTM/APM) that, together with Okta as the authentication point, replaced the legacy access gateway and translated SAML assertions into header-based auth for on‑prem applications. The integration achieved 99.92% availability, cut app integration time from weeks and thousands of dollars to a few hours per app, put 35 SAML apps into production, and supported a smooth rollout across Pitney Bowes’ 2.8 million external users.
