Omnifone Delivers Music on Demand for Millions of People All Around the World

Omnifone, a cloud music service provider delivering on-demand access to 38 million tracks across 45 countries, needed to scale and guarantee ultra-low-latency streaming and high availability for major customers such as Sony Entertainment Network’s Music Unlimited. To meet these challenges it turned to F5 Networks and its application delivery platform to ensure the performance, flexibility and reliability required for global, multi-device music delivery.

F5 Networks implemented BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager (GTM) across Omnifone’s UK and US datacentres (four BIG-IP 3900s with LTM and two BIG-IP 1600s with GTM), using iRules and active/standby failover to optimise and steer traffic. The deployment enabled sub‑one‑second track start times, reduced inter-datacentre synchronization time by 80%, delivered continuous high availability and operational cost savings, and positioned Omnifone to handle projected traffic growth of at least 400%.
