A F5 Networks Case Study
Netprice, Ltd., a Japanese e‑commerce retailer with a 2.5 million customer base, faced the need to replace its aging BIG‑IP LTM TMOS and finally deploy a web application firewall (WAF) without disrupting service, raising costs, or adding operational overhead. After evaluating options, Netprice chose F5 Networks and its BIG‑IP ASM WAF (running on the same BIG‑IP platform they already used) to meet those security and operational constraints.
F5 Networks, with support from partner Tokyo Electron Devices, migrated the TMOS, enabled BIG‑IP ASM in logging mode to profile attacks, and later switched it to blocking mode; the WAF now routinely stops tens of thousands of attack‑generated accesses daily (Netprice saw several thousand attacks per day and spikes up to 160,000). The deployment reduced load on web servers, stabilized log file sizes, lightened SSL certificate management, and minimized ongoing workload for Netprice’s IT staff while making application‑level attacks visible and blockable.
