MainGate, an event, retail, and merchandising company that builds and maintains more than 30 e-commerce websites, faced slow site provisioning, limited backend visibility, security and PCI-compliance concerns, and high hosting costs after moving sites into its own private cloud. To address these challenges, MainGate selected F5 Networks and deployed F5 BIG-IP Application Delivery Controllers, including BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) 3600 devices, to manage traffic and provide firewall capabilities.

F5 Networks implemented two BIG-IP LTM 3600 appliances using iRules to route requests, provide an ICSA-certified network-layer firewall, and centralize security and traffic management. The solution delivered faster time-to-market (site rollout reduced from weeks to minutes), “night-and-day” page-load improvements, scalable support for up to a tenfold increase in e-commerce revenue/sites, and a 61% cost reduction compared to comparable managed or public cloud alternatives, while improving availability and PCI compliance.
