LivePerson Supports up to 10 Million Concurrent Connections per Second with F5 Solution

LivePerson, a SaaS provider supporting more than 8,500 global businesses, faced rapidly growing traffic and frequent DDoS activity that pushed its existing infrastructure to a 5 Gb/s firewall limit. To meet scalability and security requirements, LivePerson selected F5 Networks and deployed VIPRION 2400 chassis with 2100 blades running BIG‑IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and subsequently BIG‑IP Advanced Firewall Manager (AFM).

F5 Networks implemented the VIPRION platform in an active‑active setup across east and west coast data centers, supporting over 1,000 servers and delivering 40 Gb/s per 2100 blade (current two‑blade chassis capacity 80 Gb/s, scalable to 160 Gb/s). Since the rollout, peak connections grew from 1.5 million to 2.11 million per second, LivePerson processed over 22 million chats in January 2013, and gained stronger DDoS protection, simplified management, and lower total cost of ownership.
