Kanaiwa Hospital Uses F5 to Increase Medical Team Collaboration and Expand In-home Patient Care

Kanaiwa Hospital, a 189‑bed medical facility focused on care for mentally disabled patients in Kanazawa City, needed to extend its small medical staff’s capacity and meet Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) requirements for in‑home patient care. The hospital required secure off‑premises access that would let doctors and care teams view full patient records—including moving images—and collaborate remotely, so it modernized its IT with a virtual desktop infrastructure (VMware Horizon View) but still needed stronger security and performance.

F5 Networks implemented BIG‑IP APM (Virtual Edition) to provide certificate‑based authentication, proxy PCoIP traffic for efficient VMware View screen delivery, and a simultaneous‑user licensing model, enabling secure remote virtual desktop access from any device. The F5 Networks solution sped up access and transmission of patient information, expanded collaboration with other hospitals and pharmacies, supported Kanaiwa Hospital’s MHLW compliance for in‑home care, and allowed more medical staff to work remotely without additional license costs—facilitating planned expansion of home‑visit services.
