Japan’s KEK Chooses F5 Solution to Protect Systems Against Cyber Attacks

KEK, the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization in Japan, faced rising cyber threats—SQL injection and DDoS attacks—against its central computer system that supports global accelerator science research. To maintain availability for thousands of visiting researchers and to meet stricter IT governance requirements without adding administrative burden, KEK selected F5 Networks’ BIG‑IP solutions (BIG‑IP ASM as a web application firewall, complementing existing BIG‑IP LTM for load balancing).

F5 Networks deployed BIG‑IP ASM (with BIG‑IP LTM) at the entry points of nine services and the web authentication system to centralize security, SSL processing, and log management. The solution enabled centralized collection and visualization of access, WAF and performance logs, faster incident response, reduced administrative costs and workload, and stronger protection against application‑level attacks and potential DDoS threats (with optional F5 Silverline cloud mitigation), improving KEK’s security posture and IT governance.
