Insurance Provider Broadens Customer Experience, Boosts Security with Integrated F5 Solution

Pekin Insurance, a large Midwestern insurer, launched a self‑service customer portal called My PI to give policyholders online access to policy and billing information but faced a complex DMZ/virtualized infrastructure and strict authentication and availability requirements. To avoid building a costly new DMZ server cluster while ensuring security and scalability, Pekin implemented a solution from F5 Networks using BIG‑IP LTM, BIG‑IP ASM and BIG‑IP APM.

F5 Networks fronted Pekin’s internal VMware environment with two BIG‑IP LTM appliances and the ASM and APM modules (with Professional Services support), providing load balancing, web application firewall protection and two‑factor authentication integrated via VMware APIs. The deployment secured the application, streamlined administration, attracted over 3,500 users, and saved Pekin close to $50,000 by avoiding a new server cluster—while creating a scalable foundation for future services.
