A F5 Networks Case Study
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare faced tight budgets, too many appliances to manage, insufficient application security, and a need for seamless federated single sign-on to support a migration to Microsoft Office 365. To address these challenges the agency selected F5 Networks and its BIG-IP family (BIG-IP APM, LTM, DNS, ASM) and VIPRION chassis to simplify identity and access management, strengthen security, and consolidate infrastructure.
F5 Networks implemented four VIPRION 2400 chassis with BIG-IP APM for federation and multifactor authentication, BIG-IP ASM to replace Barracuda WAF, and BIG-IP DNS for data-center traffic management. The deployment consolidated devices (replacing 10 BIG-IP LTM units onto VIPRION pairs per data center), enabled SSO to Office 365 with APM configured in hours versus days for an ADFS approach, improved application security aligned to the CIS Top 20 controls, and delivered higher reliability and reduced operational overhead.
