Greek Yellow Pages Improves Website Performance and Security with One Time-Saving F5 Product

Greek Yellow Pages, a leading directory service serving millions of users annually, needed to deliver much faster website performance while stopping automated web-scraping that was draining bandwidth and risking data loss. After finding Cisco’s load balancing insufficient for expected growth, the company turned to F5 Networks and its F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) to address both speed and security requirements.

F5 Networks implemented two BIG-IP LTM 3900 devices (deployed by partner Pylones) using iRules and the iControl API to direct traffic, detect sequential queries, and block abusive IPs, integrating with the customer’s log analysis tools. The solution cut home-page load time from 3.8s to under 1.2s and search-result time from 6.2s to 2.2s (about a 70% overall speed improvement), reduced IT administration time by 60%, and now supports over 60,000 users and 170,000 page views per day while significantly improving protection against web scraping.
