Domtar Centralizes Authentication and Secures Applications with F5 Solution

Domtar, a global paper and packaging company with data centers in Canada, the United States, and Europe, faced several security and access-management challenges: the IT team needed centralized authentication and single sign-on for internal and external users, layer 7 protection for web applications, labor-intensive SSL certificate management, and faster provisioning of QA/test environments. Domtar was already an F5 Networks customer using BIG-IP LTM and sought a more comprehensive solution to secure and simplify application delivery across the enterprise.

F5 Networks delivered a layered BIG-IP solution—deploying BIG-IP APM for centralized authentication, SSO and SAML IdP (implemented in a matter of hours), BIG-IP LTM for SSL offload and consolidated certificate management, and BIG-IP ASM for layer 7 protection—while using iRules and vCMP to customize access policies and rapidly provision virtual QA environments. The result was consolidated authentication and differentiated access for employees versus contractors, simplified SSL management and improved application performance, faster SAML integrations and QA turnaround, and a more available, defense-in-depth security posture across Domtar’s applications.
