Major West Coast Credit Union, which serves hundreds of thousands of members and oversees billions in assets, faced productivity and support challenges because employees had to remember multiple unique passwords and HR frequently had to reset locked accounts. The cooperative needed secure, standards-based federation (SAML, Kerberos, HMAC) and reliable multi–data-center single sign-on; it turned to F5 Networks and its BIG‑IP Access Policy Manager (BIG‑IP APM) to solve these problems.
F5 Networks implemented BIG‑IP APM with a Kerberos-authenticated intranet, SAML-based federation to vendors like ADP, F5 Professional Services support, and iRules automation. The rollout was seamless, required minimal staff training, and led to measurable benefits: decreases in IT help-desk support requests and password resets, faster employee logins and higher productivity, stronger security and richer audit logs, and expansion of SSO to many other applications (plus replacement of legacy VPN clients).
