College Deploys Highly Available, Secure Student Information System Supported by F5 Technology

Bowdoin College, a nationally renowned liberal arts institution in Maine, needed a highly available, secure, and easy-to-manage student information services (SIS) system to support heavy registration traffic and simplify administration. After replacing a less reliable Brocade solution, the college selected F5 Networks and its BIG-IP portfolio (BIG-IP LTM with the ASM module, with plans for BIG-IP GTM) to meet availability, security, manageability and IPv6 requirements.

F5 Networks implemented two BIG-IP LTM devices in front of a dozen SIS applications, added BIG-IP ASM for web application firewall protection, and plans to deploy BIG-IP GTM in a secondary data center. The deployment delivered intelligent traffic management for peak loads, centralized management and monitoring, stronger application security, IPv4/IPv6 support, and a scalable foundation for disaster recovery and growth — providing Bowdoin the high availability and improved user experience it required.
