College Boosts IT Productivity; Secures Applications and Network with F5 Solution

Sinclair Community College, which serves nearly 30,000 students and faculty across five campuses, struggled to deliver centrally managed applications because its legacy Foundry load balancers were slow, lacked security, and required CLI expertise that left routine tasks to just two network engineers. To modernize application delivery and protect web apps, Sinclair replaced the old appliances with F5 Networks BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) devices and the BIG-IP Application Security Manager (ASM) module.

F5 Networks implemented two BIG-IP LTMs with ASM, providing a GUI, role-based access, built-in web-application security, iRules scripting, and professional services support to enable App‑V load balancing. The result: simplified administration for non-network staff, improved IT productivity with fewer support cases, better application performance and availability, granular security policies, and the ability to intelligently distribute traffic across four App‑V servers.
