China Telecom Jiangsu Branch Active-active Datacenter to Optimize Resources

China Telecom Jiangsu Branch, a major regional arm of China Telecommunications Corporation, faced growing pressure from mobile Internet, cloud and big‑data demands to keep services always available while reducing data‑center costs. Regulatory requirements forced a mirrored secondary data center that sat mostly idle, so the branch sought a way to turn the backup site into an active participant in production. They selected F5 Networks technologies (VIPRION ADC running LTM and GTM, BIG‑IP DNS) alongside VMware to address these challenges.

F5 Networks implemented an active‑active data‑center architecture using VIPRION (LTM/GTM), BIG‑IP optimization (compression, replication, TCP tuning) integrated with VMware vSphere/vCenter/vFabric to automate failover and VM recovery. The combined solution delivered real‑time disaster recovery, faster application deployments and migrations, higher service availability and improved user experience, while lowering total cost of ownership and increasing resource utilization by putting the secondary site into active use.
