Belgium Gives Citizens Secure and Fast Access to Personal Data Online

Rijksdienst voor Pensioenen (RVP), the Belgian government agency that manages citizens’ pension records, needed to make career‑long pension data available online while protecting highly sensitive personal information and ensuring high availability and fast performance for millions of potential users. To meet strict procurement and security requirements the RVP selected F5 Networks solutions—deploying F5 BIG‑IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and BIG‑IP Application Security Manager (ASM) and using iRules to support strong eID‑based authentication and custom traffic flows.

F5 Networks, via partner SecureLink, installed two BIG‑IP LTM devices in active/passive mode with the ASM module, balancing load across four production web servers and centralising security management. The solution scales through traffic spikes (typical 30 Mbps, peaks to 70 Mbps), blocks targeted attacks from sources such as Russia, Kazakhstan and China, helps meet ISO 27001 and other regulations, and now supports about 30,000 users per month (≈400,000/year) while reducing administrative overhead and improving uptime and performance.
