A F5 Networks Case Study
Banco Supervielle, a nationwide Argentine bank serving about 1.5 million customers, faced serious security and compliance challenges after its Cisco ACE XML Gateway WAF reached end of life. The legacy solution failed to protect key multiplatform applications, could not support a high‑availability QA/production separation, and even prevented disabling SSLv3 without service interruption—issues that left the bank out of compliance with the Central Bank of Argentina. Banco Supervielle selected F5 Networks and its BIG‑IP Application Security Manager (ASM) to replace the aging gateway.
F5 Networks, via a partner deployment of BIG‑IP ASM (with BIG‑IP LTM on the networking side), provided standalone WAF appliances and a simulated production QA environment to test and protect a broad set of applications. The F5 solution extended protection to home banking, corporate sites, credit cards and mobile management, restored regulatory compliance, improved SSL ratings to top‑secured status in Argentina, and enabled HA. Measurable impacts included a drop in trouble tickets from several dozen to fewer than 10 per month (each ticket ~15 minutes) and an increase in proactively identified events from about 20 to more than 55 month‑over‑month, delivering clear labor savings and stronger security.
