Avea Achieves 25 Percent Subscriber Growth with F5 Carrier-Grade NAT Platform

Avea, the sole GSM 1800 mobile operator in Turkey, faced growth limits from global IPv4 exhaustion and new government data-access legislation that risked capping subscribers and forcing large storage investments. To address these challenges, Avea engaged F5 Networks and deployed the F5 VIPRION platform with BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM).

F5 Networks’ VIPRION and BIG-IP LTM — leveraging iRules, deterministic NAT and built‑in DDoS protection — translated private to public IPs, supported IPv4/IPv6 coexistence, and centralized regulatory reporting. The solution enabled a 25% increase in subscribers within three months, saved approximately US$1 million in log storage, improved mobile network performance by 10–15%, and provided scalable capacity (projected growth from 1 million to 16 million users).
