A F5 Networks Case Study
U.S. Defense Contractor, which manages IT operations for a federal geospatial‑intelligence agency, faced aging, hard‑to‑manage load balancers, unpredictable traffic surges, and a mandate to consolidate hundreds of legacy servers. To ensure high availability, scalability, and simpler administration for mission‑critical mapping and intelligence services, the contractor selected F5 Networks Application Delivery Controllers (BIG‑IP) to replace the Cisco‑based load‑balancing infrastructure.
Using F5 Networks’ BIG‑IP products (eight BIG‑IP LTM devices, BIG‑IP WebAccelerator, LTM VE and related modules and templates), the contractor centralized traffic management across physical and virtual servers and integrated with VMware for virtualized delivery. The F5 solution delivered measurable gains—application performance improved by as much as 300 percent, many code‑heavy pages load up to 97 percent faster, and the environment gained real‑time failover, better monitoring, and the foundation for large‑scale data center consolidation.
