Allrecipes, the world’s largest digital food brand serving more than 34 million home cooks monthly and receiving over 700 million visits a year, needed to guarantee high availability and fast performance across sites and mobile apps—especially during massive seasonal spikes (typical peaks around 1 million page views per hour and more than 2.2 million on Thanksgiving Eve). To meet those demands, Allrecipes turned to F5 Networks, deploying BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager (GTM).
F5 Networks implemented multiple BIG-IP LTM devices across Allrecipes’ four data centers and BIG-IP GTM pairs across sites, using features like iRules to offload work, perform health checks, and intelligently route traffic. The solution balanced traffic for 700M+ annual visits, delivered pages in under a second, made peak events such as Thanksgiving a “relative non‑event,” and provided a more easily managed, highly available environment that helped Allrecipes stay competitive and reliably serve users worldwide.
