A EZ Texting Case Study
Students For The National Equality March partnered with the NoH8 Campaign and the Service Members Legal Defense Network to stage a “flash protest” opposing the military’s Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy. The challenge was quickly mobilizing and coordinating students converging on Washington, D.C., and delivering last-minute time and location instructions to maximize turnout.
Organizers used Ez Texting’s group SMS (keyword NOH8 on short code 313131), promoted via Facebook, Twitter, email and blogs, to collect opt‑ins and send a single alert on the day of the protest. 827 people opted in, the message spurred a flash protest that grew to an estimated 1,200 participants, attracted national media coverage (CNN, The New York Times, Inside Higher Ed, The Advocate), and showcased the power of mass texting for rapid grassroots mobilization.
