The Nestlé Accelerator, an innovation team within Nestlé, faced the challenge of validating a new beverage product without the option of traditional in-store testing due to intellectual property sensitivity. They needed to gather deep, accurate behavioral data that mimicked a real shopping experience to assess the product's shelf impact and commercial potential. They partnered with vendor EyeSee Research to utilize its high-fidelity virtual shopping solution.
EyeSee implemented a comprehensive three-phase study using virtual shopping simulations, eye tracking, and implicit association tests. This approach provided Nestlé with the behavioral and attitudinal insights needed to make a confident launch decision. The results showed the new product stood out on the shelf, attracted new buyers without cannibalizing existing sales, and one design variant demonstrated stronger consumer relevance. Based on EyeSee's findings, the optimized product was recommended for launch, well-positioned for impact and growth.
