West Lothian Council Modernizes Wireless to Deliver Better Learning Experience

West Lothian Council, the local authority for West Lothian, Scotland, manages almost 100 primary, secondary and ASN schools serving over 25,000 students and needed a wireless refresh to deliver reliable, high‑capacity connectivity, scalable futureproofing, and centralized management across its estate. To meet those needs the council partnered with Maintel and Extreme Networks, deploying Extreme Wireless hardware and ExtremeCloud IQ for unified, cloud‑based management and visibility.

Extreme Networks implemented a classroom‑level access point strategy (maintaining a 30:1 student-to-AP ratio) and centralized management with ExtremeCloud IQ, delivering increased capacity and consistent connectivity across the district. The deployment created an effectively online learning environment, simplified operations via a single pane of glass, freed IT staff for higher‑value work, and avoided major additional costs to support student devices while reliably serving West Lothian’s ~25,000 learners.
