University of Pittsburgh Builds a Connected and Engaging Digital Experience

University of Pittsburgh needed to modernize the John M. and Gertrude E. Petersen Events Center as part of a rebranding and to keep pace with ACC peers, facing a legacy network that couldn’t support secure guest Wi‑Fi, captive portal authentication, analytics, or future mobile engagement. After an RFP, PITT selected Extreme Networks (deploying ExtremeWireless™, ExtremeSwitching™ and Extreme Management Center™) working with Ideal Integrations and SocialSign. In to deliver a venue-grade, scalable network and digital experience platform.

Extreme Networks designed and replaced the older infrastructure, installing over 350 ExtremeWireless access points and centralized wired/wireless management, security and analytics, and integrated with SocialSign. In’s captive portal for personalized content and validated data capture. The result: seamless, secure Wi‑Fi for guests and staff, migration of ticket scanners and digital signage to the new network, a rich pool of validated contact data fed into CRM/marketing systems, and the ability to run targeted remarketing and event-specific fan experiences across the 12,500‑seat, 430,000 sq. ft. arena that hosts 100+ events annually.
