A Extreme Networks Case Study
SUNY Canton, Northern New York’s two- and four-year college for technology, health and public service, faced a major network hardware refresh to support a growing BYOD footprint (4–5 devices per user), expanding online and distance-learning programs, eSports, and IoT initiatives. With rising operating costs, impending end-of-life equipment and only one full‑time network administrator, SUNY Canton engaged Extreme Networks to provide upgraded networking technology including 802.11ac Wave 2 access points and a single-pane management approach.
Extreme Networks deployed a solution built on ExtremeSwitching, ExtremeWireless, Extreme Management Center, ExtremeControl and ExtremeAnalytics, with professional services support during rollout. The implementation delivered no unanticipated outages, allowed SUNY Canton to maintain existing staffing levels through the upgrade, improved infrastructure resilience and future‑proofed the campus network — enabling reliable support for 3,200 students, distance learning, eSports and growing IoT use while providing analytics for application and bandwidth monitoring.
