Seminole Schools Extends Reliable, Centrally Managed WLAN Throughout its Florida District

Seminole County Public Schools, one of the largest districts in Florida with 61 schools and about 64,000 students, needed to move off ad-hoc laptop-cart access points to a secure, resilient, enterprise-grade WLAN that could support BYOD and growing computer-based testing. After evaluating options, the district chose Extreme Networks and its controller-less architecture, deploying ExtremeWireless with ExtremeCloud IQ and ExtremeSwitching to replace dozens of independent networks and create a single, manageable wireless fabric.

Extreme Networks implemented a phased rollout (now about 1,000 APs including AP350 indoor and AP170 outdoor models) that delivered centrally managed, highly available Wi‑Fi across most campuses. The Extreme Networks solution let one network specialist monitor and configure the entire district from a single pane of glass, freed IT resources, supported laptop-based testing outside crowded labs, and enabled new uses (e.g., stadium streaming), measurably improving scalability, security, and operational efficiency across Seminole County Public Schools.
