A Extreme Networks Case Study
Unisea, a large seafood processor operating from Dutch Harbor, Alaska to a cold‑storage facility in Redmond, Washington, faced mission‑critical Wi‑Fi failures in extreme conditions: limited satellite bandwidth (6 Mbps), freezing temperatures, ice and forklift‑mounted Windows 7 clients, and legacy access points that required constant rebooting. To modernize their network, Unisea engaged Extreme Networks and deployed ExtremeWireless access points (AP230 for indoor, AP1130 for outdoor) along with ExtremeCloud IQ.
Extreme Networks implemented an on‑premises ExtremeCloud IQ management platform, AP230/AP1130 access points, RADIUS and PPSK authentication, and built‑in application visibility and stateful firewall controls. The deployment gave Unisea full network visibility and device control (guest PPSKs that expire weekly, ability to identify and throttle heavy users), improved security and warehouse safety, and reliable wireless in sub‑freezing, high‑wind conditions — the AP1130s have not required reboots — enabling consistent, mission‑critical operations.
