San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center Looks to Extreme for Reliability and Manageability

San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center (SLVRMC), a 49‑bed regional medical facility in South Central Colorado, faced a hodgepodge of aging, underperforming switches that threatened plans for expanded wireless, VoIP and other clinical technologies. After evaluating vendors with partner CareTech Solutions, SLVRMC selected Extreme Networks to deliver a more reliable, scalable network using ExtremeSwitching hardware and software.

Extreme Networks deployed two X450a core switches, more than four dozen 450e edge switches, ExtremeSwitching 250e for VoIP, and management via Ridgeline and ExtremeXOS, with EAPS for sub‑50 millisecond failover. The result was a “rock‑solid” network with faster backups (reduced from 5–7 minutes to 1–2 minutes), seamless voice/data failover in real‑world switch replacements, simplified troubleshooting, and the reliability and capacity SLVRMC needed for future healthcare applications.
