A Extreme Networks Case Study
San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) needed a reliable, centrally managed network to support 100,000 students and 7,000 faculty and staff across three colleges and seven continuing education campuses, with requirements for BYOD, real‑time video streaming and secure access to applications like VOIP and PeopleSoft. To meet these challenges SDCCD selected Extreme Networks and deployed a full Extreme solution—ExtremeWireless, ExtremeSwitching, Extreme Management Center and ExtremeControl—to give their small IT staff the centralized management they required.
Extreme Networks implemented a wired and wireless infrastructure with 600+ Wi‑Fi access points and centralized management and policy tools, enabling the district to securely support up to 75,000 simultaneous users, improve network reliability and accessibility, and proactively manage devices across a large campus footprint. The Extreme Networks solution delivered measurable benefits—all campus buildings upgraded, greatly improved network uptime and security (via Policy Manager), more efficient IT operations, and consistently positive student feedback—cementing a long‑term partnership between SDCCD and Extreme.
