A Extreme Networks Case Study
St. Edward’s University, a private liberal arts Catholic university in Austin with roughly 4,600–4,700 students and 21 partner universities worldwide, needed a modern, cost-effective wireless infrastructure to support BYOD (7–8 devices per student), reliable access across a 100+ acre campus (30 buildings, 9 residence complexes) and a sister campus in France. After evaluating vendors, St. Edward’s stayed with Extreme Networks and deployed ExtremeSwitching, ExtremeWireless, ExtremeManagement and ExtremeControl to simplify management and reduce total cost of ownership.
Extreme Networks’ solution—including the Extreme Management Center dashboards—enabled the university to support 7,000+ simultaneous users, reduce help-desk calls and staffing requirements, and shift IT from firefighting to proactive innovation. According to St. Edward’s staff, the more robust, easier-to-manage network improved visibility and performance, contributed to increased student retention and admission rates, and lowered ongoing operational costs.
